This serious game supports the training of bee keepers in virtual reality environment and was developed for Bienen Schweiz. As one of the earliest projects of the IR lab, it was completed in 2019 but received a visual and technical overhaul in 2023.
Bee keeping is an important activity both in Switzerland and the world, because bees are crucial for both ecological and economical systems of a country. The training of bee keepers is demanding and one of the challenges is that some of the practical exercises that can’t be conducted regularly as bees are sensitive organisms.
While the training already includes a variety of digital media to support the learning process, there is still further potential in the digital transformation of education. A preliminary study conducted by Zukunfstlabor CreaLab identified an adaptation of current learning methodologies as the most beneficial course of action. The development of a serious VR game that allows for training of bee keepers in an immersive environment is a contribution to explore these methods.
