The Institutes of Architecture, Building Technology & Energy, Civil Engineering and Interior Architecture will hold a Design-Build Summer School in Arusha/Tanzania in July 2022. The workshop was originally planned for July 2020, and will finally happen, this summer!

Our goal will be to design and build a complete structure within the short period of two weeks. The structure shall sensibly take into account all relevant factors of the site. The climate, available resources and local craftsmanship, programmatic and cultural aspects will equally influence our interdisciplinary design and construction process. We will extend our repertoire in the fields of technology, planning and sociology. Practical experience is welcome and the readiness to get your hands actively involved is a prerequisite.

The workshop will draw on the experience of the past Summer Schools in Tanzania. The project will connect to an ongoing campus development in the small village of Momela, located between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in Northern Tanzania. The newly built structure shall complement the existing facilities on site. The Summer School is open to approx. 12-14 HSLU students (open to Bachelor and Master students from the Institutes of Architecture, Building Technology & Energy, Civil Engineering and Interior Architecture), who will presumably be joined by further participants from Antwerp/Belgium and Dar es Salaam/Tanzania.
