At the end of their studies at the HSLU T&A, students write a thesis book that demonstrates their theoretical interest as well as their attitude as designing architects. This is done by means of a well-substantiated thesis developed on the basis of a survey and application of existing theories and research. By combining theoretical foundations with their own design practice, overlays and insights are created that enable reflection on their own actions.

The basis for the assignment is formed by the methods learned in the in-depth studies of the Master’s course and the historical and theoretical knowledge acquired in the process. The argumentation is done in a comprehensible way and should underpin the train of thought developed in the project with already existing knowledge.

The thesis book differs from the process book as it interweaves a thesis with one’s own design. In addition to explaining the architectural project, statements on the themes of material, structure and energy contribute to a deeper engagement with these themes. Complementing the project submission, the thesis book represents an independent vessel and synthesises the utilised theoretical knowledge with the design competence acquired during the studies.
