Lecture Lara Almarcegui
The first lecture in the “Positions on Urbanism” series took place on October 12, 2023. The Spanish-born, Rotterdam-based artist Lara Almarcegui spoke about her projects, in which she addresses urban transformation processes as a result of political, social and economic changes. The video recording of the lecture is now available online.
Lara Almarcegui
Since the mid-1990s, Lara Almarcegui has been directing her attention to urban conditions that are not normally the focus of perception: Brownfields, building materials, the invisible. At a time of extensive urban renewal in Europe, she produced guidelines for urban brownfields and even campaigned for their legal protection. The artist also campaigned for the acquisition of mineral rights to iron ore deposits in order to prevent mining.
Lecture series «Positions on Urbanism»
In the Autumn Semester 2023 lectures focus on urban design issues, seeking new, contemporary and multidisciplinary approaches to discuss and solve current challenges to the built environment. Topics addressed in this context include the use of brownfields and building materials, the influence that fictional stories can have on real public space, and the fundamental question of architectural ethos and the role of architects in urban transformation processes.
