Architecture Model Workshop

In the architecture model workshop and model workshop at Ebenau 20, spatial-plastic thinking, designing with models and the examination of materials, construction and craftsmanship are to be promoted. An awareness and responsible action towards the climate situation is of central importance to us. An extensive infrastructure with high-quality hand tools, hand machines and stationary precision machines for model making, woodworking and plastics processing, three CO2 lasers and several 3D printers are freely available. Rooms for plaster and concrete casting and a paint spraying room complete the offer.

In the material sale we offer a wide range of materials and hand tools for model making. The material sale is open from Montays to Fridays from 11h30 to 12h00.

In the offices of the Architecture Workshop and the Ebenau 20 Workshop, students and faculty staff can get advice on analog and digital model making, construction and craftsmanship.

A three-hour introduction is mandatory for the use of the architecture workshop; this is integrated in the Basic Workshop module. For the use of the CO2 lasers and 3D printers, one and a half hour introductions are offered.

PCS – Prevent Contact System

Since the Fall Semester of 2022, the workshops of the Institute of Architecture have been equipped with new circular saws that feature the novel PCS system. The PCS supplements the existing protective devices on circular saws. After contactless accident hazard detection, the PCS triggers the lowering of the saw blade under the circular saw table in a few milliseconds. PCS also triggers safety lowering in the event of unexpectedly rapid approach in the saw blade area. The mode of operation, based on the electro-magnetic repulsion principle, enables an extremely short reaction time and reduces the risk of injury to a minimum. The system must not be triggered deliberately. Any triggering must be reported to the workshop personnel.
